Local 825 Operating Engineer, 83, excelled in state project work Anthony F. ("Buddy") Cerciello passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021. He was 83. He was born in Morristown, to Valerie and James Cerciello. The family lived in Summit and later relocated to Lincroft. Anthony graduated from Summit High School in 1956, where he was a varsity football standout and state champion. After graduating, he joined the United States Army National Guard during the Cold War where he proudly served for 9 years. He briefly attended Monmouth College where he studied accounting. Prior to retiring in 2003, he excelled in his career as an Operating Engineer with Local 825 out of Springfield, for nearly 50 years. He worked on hundreds of projects throughout the state, some of which include Newark Airport, the Mall at Short Hills, N.J. Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and both the Brunswick Square Mall and Jay Doyle Field, in the town where he resided. He took great pride in his work. Anthony was a parishioner of St. Bartholomew R.C. Church, East Brunswick for 50 years. He was predeceased by his parents, and his loving wife of 51 years, Mary (ne Ivanish). Surviving are his adoring children: a daughter, Natalie Biggar and her husband, Stephen; a son, Anthony "AJ"; a granddaughter, Stella, and the family cat, Luna. Anthony is also survived by his sister, Marie Dvorak, and many close cousins and friends. Besides his career, Anthony had many other passions and interests such as playing golf, watching football and baseball, attending sporting events with his family, cruises, and making many trips to Myrtle Beach and Naples, Florida, among a few other places. Locally, he volunteered some of his time with the swim club, Middlesex County fair, coaching youth soccer, and with the Tamarack senior golf league. Above all, Anthony is best known for keeping his family near and dear to his heart. He will be remembered with love and laughter.
