'Managed her family with courage, creativity, humor, and love' Christine McCurley Clarke quietly passed away on October 9, 2021, one month short of her 97th birthday. Born in Harthill, Scotland, she emigrated to the Bronx in 1930 with her mother, Lizzie, and her little brother, Bill. At 22, Chris married Ray Clarke, a career Navy man. She would go on to work as an editor for AT&T; to master the game of bridge; and to found Meridian Press. But most of all, Chris devoted 20 years to the challenge of a military marriage. Raising four children, even as Ray spent months at sea, she managed her family with courage, creativity, humor, and love. Home might be Lakehurst, New Jersey; Norfolk, Virginia; San Diego, California; Pensacola, Florida; or Cubi Point, the Philippines. Chris always made things work. She is survived by her daughters Betsy Clarke and Ginger Clarke Scotto and her husband Dan; her sons, James, and Russell and his wife Marcia, and grandchildren Sarah and James, Lauren and Andrew, and Ali and Douglas, as well as four great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021, from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, NJ 07069, followed by a 7:30 pm celebration of Christine's life at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Bound Brook Cemetery. Higgins Home For Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, NJ 07069 (908) 756-0017
