Edward L. McMenamy

Edward L. McMenamy passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 21, in Juno Beach, Fla., at the age of 94. Visitation will be at the Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 309 Springfield Ave., Summit, N.J., on Monday, Dec. 27, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Ave., Summit, N.J., on Tuesday, Dec. 28, at 9:30 a.m. Ed was born in North Easton, Mass., one of 10 children, and raised in a close-knit, loving family. Throughout his school years, Ed worked in his father's grocery store sweeping the floor, stocking shelves, delivering groceries, and learning to be a meat cutter. Ed worked his entire career for Thomas J. Lipton, Inc., beginning as a salesman in 1940, selling tea bags to grocery stores in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived at the local YMCA. During World War II, he served as a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He then returned to Lipton, subsequently graduated from the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, and after a long and successful career retired as executive vice president and a member of the board of directors. Before retiring to Jupiter, Fla., Ed and his wife, Margaret, resided in Summit for over 30 years. They were active members of St. Teresa's Parish, and were also long time members of Canoe Brook Country Club, where they enjoyed many years of golf, bridge, bowling, and friendship with fellow members. Nothing was more important to Ed than his family, his friends, and his faith. He was loved and admired by his children and grandchildren, who remember well the lessons he taught them: your word is your honor, always tell the truth, and work hard. He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his warm and engaging personality, his hilarious stories, and his unending kindness and generosity. Ed was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Margaret, and is survived by five children, Ed Jr. and his wife, Earlene, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Mary Lou Parker and her husband, Thomas, of Summit, N.J., Thomas and his wife, Peggy, of Bridgewater, N.J., Joseph and his wife, Kristyne, of Summit, N.J., and Mark and his wife, Dede, of Florham Park, N.J.; his 10 grandchildren, and his brother, James of North Easton, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
