School teacher; her marriage and children brought her great joy Emilie Christiansen Manning died peacefully on September 11, 2021. She was born in Elizabeth, N.J. on Nov. 13, 1929. Her parents were Florence and John Christiansen. She was a Christian. Emilie led a very productive life and truly believed in "hard work". She was taught by her parents that one can remove the "t" from can't. With that in mind she worked full-time for Esso Standard Oil right after high school, went to Union Junior College nights for two years, and graduated from Drew University in 1951. Emilie was an elementary school teacher and taught in South Bound Brook, N.J., Roselle, N.J., Timonium, Md. and Pine Beach, N.J. Several highlights during those years were getting her Master's degree; in the mid-eighties teaching her 4th graders to use the Bank Street Writer on the Apple IIE in their classroom; and being voted Teacher of the Year by her colleagues. Throughout her teaching career she encouraged her students to work hard and always do their best, be aware of spelling and handwriting. Her marriage to Rev. Dr. Richard J. Manning in 1955 brought her great joy and fulfillment for 57 years till Oct. 1, 2012, the date of his death. Their children Leslie and Walter were always considered a blessing! She is survived by her daughter Leslie (Manning) Corbley, and husband James Corbley, her son Walter Manning and Laura Saynay, sister Judy Cook, grandsons Sean Corbley and Ryan Corbley, dear nieces and nephews, and close friends Diny, Joyce and Anelda. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 4-8pm at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ. Funeral Thursday, 8:30am at the funeral home before celebrating a 10:00am Funeral Service at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River on Hooper Avenue Toms River, NJ. Burial will follow to Whiting Memorial Park in Whiting, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Princeton Theological Seminary, memo: Donation to the Vineyard Fund. Address: Princeton Theological Seminary, 64 Mercer Street, P.O. Box 821, Princeton, N.J. 08542-0803. The fund helps students in their pursuit to become full time workers for Christ.

We are all so sorry to hear this loss. Aunt Emilie is certainly one of a kind. Aunt Emilie gave me so much strength and she´s a second Mom to me. I´ll miss our countless hours of phone calls. May she Rest In Peace. Sending prayers and hugs to you Walter and Leslie.
