James Curtin Obituary

Bank executive, Army vet James E. Curtin, 92, of Cedar Grove died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2009 at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge. Funeral services are Saturday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m. from Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., (Rt. 23), Cedar Grove, N.J. 07009. Visitation prior to services will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday. Interment is at Evergreen Cemetery, Hillside. Mr. Curtin was born at home in Montclair. He was raised in that same home, married and moved to Cedar Grove 62 years ago. After graduating from high school, he worked for the National Newark and Essex Bank on Broad Street in Newark, which is now called PNC Bank. James attended Dartmouth College for many summers and worked his way up the ranks over his 44-year employment to vice president of commercial loans, retiring in 1979. He was a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the beloved husband to the late Margaret Curtin (Tripp); devoted father to Sandra Bagge and the late Janet Rickert; cherished grandfather to Kerry Rickert; dear cousin to Doris Cox and friend to Greta Krantz and Peggy Moore. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to the charity of your choice.
