Devoted husband, father and grandfather, of Cranford, 79 James Patrick Slattery, 79, passed away November 30, 2021 in Cranford, NJ . Born and raised in Jersey City N.J., he was a longtime resident of Cranford N.J. Friends and relatives are invited to visit Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Ave West, Cranford, NJ 07016 on Sunday, December 5, 2-4PM and 7-9PM. A funeral Mass will take place at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church located at 40 Alden Street, Cranford, NJ, on Monday, December 6, at 10AM. James is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Clare (nee Daneri), sons Brian (Lisamarie), Keith (Kristine), Sean (Sandra), daughter Shannon Matarazzo (Michael) and 11 grandchildren, Connor, Kaitlyn, Megan, Brenna, Victoria, Anna, Charlotte, Joseph, Sofia, Ava and Jack. James is further survived by his siblings, Thomas Slattery, Joan Raynolds, Edward Slattery and Gail Feely and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Mary. An anchor of his large family, devoted husband, father and grandfather, "Slats" lived a life grounded in strong principles. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a prolific storyteller, voracious reader and fiercely independent thinker, authentic to his core, irreverent, humorous, indomitable and utterly selfless with a big heart. An endlessly fun and, at times, wild grandfather, he put his wife and family above all else. He did it his way.
