Joseph Chichelo Obituary
Designer, retired Roche creative director, 'father figure to many'
Joseph Generoso Chichelo of West Orange, NJ passed away with his family by his side on May 14, 2021, at the age of 85.
Visiting will be held in Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, NJ on Tuesday, May 18th from 3-8 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona, on Wednesday, May 19th, at 10 AM with the Entombment to follow in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover, NJ. Mr. Chichelo was born in Orange, NJ and has resided in West Orange for many years.
He attended the Newark School of Fine Industrial Arts and Seton Hall University. He embarked on his career as Director of Creative Services for Hoffmann-La Roche in Nutley for 27 years before his retirement in 1995. He continued with freelance artwork and design throughout the next 20 years.
He will always be remembered as a father figure to many and a man who left a legacy as a person who could always be counted on and was admired by his family and peers.
Joseph is the beloved husband of 61 years of Pauline (nee Guerriero); loving father of Joseph (Janice), Michael (Denise), Diane Koval (Michael), Denise McGee (Richard), Paul (Laura), David (Beth) and Anthony (Florencia); cherished grandfather of Nina Chichelo, Joseph Chichelo, Gia Chichelo, Rocco Chichelo, Michael Koval, Marissa Koval, Christina Koval, Richie McGee, Christian McGee, Gabriella Chichelo, David Chichelo, Johnny Chichelo, Lia Chichelo, Lorenzo Chichelo, Viviana Chichelo and Sergio Chichelo; loving son of the late Generoso Chichelo, killed in action on September 4, 1944 in France during WW II, and Rose Chichelo (nee DeLisa); dear brother of the late Peter (Louise) and James (Lucille); Brother-in-law of Angie Pizzi (Late Donald) , Michael Guerriero (Lynn), Joseph Guerriero (Diana) and Eleanor Zimmerman (Paul); also survived by many cherished cousins and was pre-deceased by his late cousin Lillian Grippaldi (Joseph), who was like a sister to him.

I knew Joe when I was a child.
He worked for my father as a graphic artist in Monclair when my father had his company; this was before Joe moved over to Hoffman-La Roche.

From the time I met Joe, when I was a young child, until the very last time I saw him in 2019, he was smiling. And that's the way I've always remembered him—as a man who had a kind word for everyone and for whom no one ever had an unkind word. Open-hearted and open-minded, he was tirelessly generous with his time and attention. He will be forever missed.
