Prominent Attorney and Beloved Patriarch, Dies at 94
Marvin A. Sachs, a leading New Jersey trial attorney and longtime partner at Sachs, Maitlin, Fleming, Greene & Wilson, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, at the age of 94.
A Harvard Law graduate, Mr. Sachs was a commanding presence in the courtroom and in life - brilliant, charismatic, and endlessly warm. He served as President of the Essex County Bar Association and was a longtime Trustee of East Orange General Hospital. He also served as President of Jewish Vocational Service and chaired the Lawyers Division of the Jewish Federation of MetroWest. His legal brilliance was matched by his deep devotion to family, community, and mentorship.
Mr. Sachs was a classically trained pianist who especially loved Chopin, a lifelong Mets fan, a traveler, golfer, wine enthusiast, and passionate admirer of Frank Sinatra.
He is survived by his beloved wife Judy Sachs; children Wendy Sachs Bond (partner Eric Garland) and Eric Sachs (wife Marji Sachs); grandchildren Ben Sachs, Lauren Sachs, Alex Bond, Matthew Bond (fiancée Lindsay Gulics), Lucia Pasquariello, Sophie Diekmann, and Ellie Diekmann; stepchildren Amy Pasquariello and Henry Diekmann (wife Carrie Diekmann); and his younger brother, Charles Sachs. He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Numark Sachs.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 1st at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel in Livingston, NJ. Shiva will follow that afternoon at 4 Hadley Court, Basking Ridge, NJ, and continue on Wednesday April 2 at 240 Park Avenue South in New York City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WILO NJ (https://mywilo.org), an adult autism housing community that was close to Marvin's heart and home to one of his beloved grandchildren.
Marvin lived with gusto, led with conviction, and leaves behind a legacy as vibrant, generous, and unforgettable as his favorite Sinatra lyrics.
