Thomas Chesson Obituary

Thomas Richard Chesson, born on September 4, 1939, in East Orange, New Jersey, passed away on February 20, 2025. He was raised in Morris Plains, New Jersey, and dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice and service to his community.

Thomas graduated from Morristown High School before earning his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University. He continued his education at Rutgers University School of Law, laying the foundation for a distinguished legal career. Between undergraduate and law school, he served in the U.S. Air Force before joining the law firm Porzio Bromberg, where he became a principal and later served as Of Counsel. As the head of the firm's plaintiff's Personal Injury Department, he was committed to advocating for those in need.

His professional achievements were numerous. Thomas was a member of the American College of Trial Attorneys and served as president of the New Jersey Trial Attorneys. He also contributed to the legal profession through his work with the Morris County Bar's Ethics Committee and Medical Legal Committee.

Thomas was deeply involved in the community; serving as the President of the Board of Directors of Matheny Medical and Educational Center. He was a devoted husband to Maureen Chesson and a loving father to Diane Denise Oborne and Linda Marlene Ahrens. (Husband: John Ahrens) He cherished time spent with his grandchildren, Julia Ahrens and Thomas Oborne. He was predeceased by his parents, William Dudley Chesson and Loretta Kain, as well as his sister, Judith Chesson.

A lifelong Yankees fan, Thomas found joy in following his favorite team throughout the years. He was known for his pink Thunderbird - famously known as "Barbie's Dream Car." He retired to Lakewood Ranch, Florida in 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Matheny Medical and Educational Center or a charity of choice in his memory.

May his legacy of dedication and service continue to inspire all who knew him.
