DIANE BUCKEY Obituary

BUCKEY

July 25, 1953 -

August 13, 2025

Plano- Diane S. Buckey, 72, of Plano, Texas died on August 13th, 2025. Diane was born in 1953, the first child of Jay C. Buckey and Laura Jean McPherson Buckey. Diane attended W. Tresper Clarke High School in Westbury, NY and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She also trained at the Katharine Gibbs School in New York City. In New York, she worked at the Hotel Roger Smith and at the Calvary Baptist Church.

Diane moved to the Dallas area and settled in Plano in 1983. Since 2014, she worked for Globe Life Insurance Company, formerly the Torchmark Corporation.

Previously, she had worked for many years at the store, Yarns and Stitches, before it had to close its doors. Her passion was for knitting. She had a creative gift with knitting and taught classes and knitted items on commission, particular Christmas stockings. She taught a workshop on “My First Sweater” at Yarns and Stitches and was the go-to person for individuals who were having difficulty with their knitting projects. All the family members have treasured items that Diane knitted for them. She once said that if she could, she would spend all her time knitting.

Diane was a woman of faith. She grew up in the Episcopal Church and, while in Dallas, attended Grace Church. She also took biblical training at Christ for the Nations Institute.

She is survived by her brother Jay, sister-in-law Sarah, a nephew, two nieces, and extended family. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the American Cancer Society in Diane's honor.

Diane and I became friends in 2014. We shared a love for yarn and books, celebrated our birthdays together, and, above all, shared a passion for the Word of God. Her kind words and strength anchored me many times. A valiant soldier has gone home today. You will be greatly missed, my friend, until we meet again in His presence.

I met Diane in 1980 in Gramercy Park in New York. We bonded over a love of movies. I remember us standing in line (when that was still a thing), trying to get in to world premieres. In 1982, we just missed the cut-off for a 9:00 sneak preview of a little movie called E.T., but there were enough of us in line that they added a midnight showing. So we hung out in a diner eating pizza and waited for midnight. We saw the movie...I remember walking back from it at 3 AM, feeling like we had just seen something the rest of the world would be talking about--and we had. Our friendship and fandom continued for 40 years. I wear one of the headbands she knitted for me every day to keep my hair out of my eyes and I know the coming of winter will hurt as I sort through all the beautiful scarves she made. Her loss is immeasurable. Sending my love to her family.

Miss Diane was one of the sweetest people I've ever met. We worked together at Globe Life for the past 10 years and she was always a joy to work with. Rest well my friend and we'll meet again on the other side of the SON
