Richard Jude Alford Sr. was born May 19, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to George and Dorothy (Ebel) Alford. He passed away in McKinney, Texas August 28, 2021.
Rick spent his early childhood years in Chicago. His family later moved to Oklahoma City, then Enid, before settling in Woodward in 1956. Rick graduated from Woodward High School in 1961. He joined the Army reserve while in high school and left for training shortly after graduation.
In his youth, two of Rick's greatest loves were hunting and water skiing. During hunting season, he could be found at Fort Supply lake after any kind of hapless fowl. During the summertime, he was on the same lake water skiing with friends. He liked the water so much that he had a boat instead of a car. His brother George “Rusty” Alford let him use his car to pull Rick's boat. He added scuba diving to his list of beloved hobbies after he moved to Oklahoma City, and later in life became an avid golfer.
Rick, his wife Cheryl (Clark), and their two young children moved to Oklahoma City January 1, 1966 to run and service multiple Robo car washes in the greater OKC area. He eventually became the owner 5 of the car washes and also bought a Kerr McGee service station. Rick's Kerr McGee was right on the corner of NW 36th and MacArthur where he operated until the late 1980's. It was during this time that he and Cheryl were blessed with 2 more children.
He became a devout Christian evangelizing wherever he could. He even had a prison ministry in the 80's where he was passionate about spreading the word with others. Some of his last words were “Jesus is Lord”.
Rick met his wife Jill (Claar) in Oklahoma City in1985. They were married in January of 1986, and later moved to Texas. Ultimately, he became a financial advisor and estate planner and launched Alford Retirement Solutions. They ended up in McKinney, TX, where he retired just this past year.
Rick loved golfing with his brother Tom. They were often joined by his nephews, Tom's boys Tommy and Danny. When he wasn't on the golf course Rick was watching and following University of Oklahoma Football.....BOOMER!
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son Robert Andrew Alford (February 11, 1966) and brother Dean Alford (April 19, 2021).
He is survived by his wife Jill (Claar) Alford of McKinney, Texas; two daughters, Dr. Charlene Alford-Mercier and husband Maurice of New Port Richey Florida, Ricky Celeste Boyle and husband Kevin of Norman, Oklahoma and one son, Richard Jude Alford Jr.; five grandchildren, Teigan (Alford) Stones, Tate Alford, Chance Alford-Mercier, Beau Mercier and Brock Boyle; two brothers, Thomas Alford of Rockwall, Tx and George (Rusty) Alford Jr of DeLand, Florida.
