STEPHEN CLARK Obituary

CLARK

Stephen Williamson “Bill” Clark, CAPT, USCG Retired, 76, peacefully passed on Sunday June 26, 2016 at his home in Flower Mound.

He was born on July 27, 1939 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Stephen Cuppy Clark and Alma “Judy” Dobbin. Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years JoAnn Clark; sons, Chris and his wife Peggy and Robert; granddaughters Lindsay, Stephanie, Kristin and Allison and grandson, Stephen.

Following high school Bill enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and embarked on an extraordinary 40 year career, rising through the enlisted ranks and then the officer corps to retire as a Captain. His love of electronics and communications saw him obtain the rating of Chief, Electronics Technician and then Chief Warrant Officer, Communications. After graduating Officer Candidate School, Bill remained in the electronics field serving as district inspector, chief of district electronics branches and at USCG headquarters where he implemented Vessel Traffic Systems throughout the United States. He was the first Chief of the Electronics Division at the now-defunct Maintenance and Logistics Command, Atlantic and Commanding Officer of the Electronics Engineering Center in, New Jersey. He retired from his military service in 1997 and moved to Flower Mound. Bill loved his service and bled Coast Guard Blue.

Bill was also an Amateur Radio “Ham” Operator, mostly operating out of the Seattle area. He was involved in Scouting as an adult leader and as a result both his sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout and as well his grandson. He loved his canine friends; everything from a bow-legged beagle to a West Highland terrier. He also taught adult bible school for more than two decades. In his retirement he traveled and enjoyed his grandchildren. Bill was quick witted and always had a pun for every occasion.

Funeral services will be at St. Ann Catholic church in Coppell at 10 AM on July 27th and following he will be interred in Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Clark home.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made in his name to Humane Tomorrow (Flower Mound) or Christian Community Action (Lewisville).
