Alfred Everett Obituary

ALFRED J. EVERETT

Alfred J. Everett, 73, of Wilmington, NC died peacefully at home on Sunday, November 28, 2010.

Al was born in Watertown, NY, son of the late Alfred and Dorothy Everett.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, seven children, their spouses, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, a sister, sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and many other beloved family members.

Al retired after more than 30 years as a Program Manager with General Dynamics, formerly GTE Sylvania. He worked on the communication systems of all our countries peace keeping missile programs. Following his retirement, Al and Pat relocated from Framingham, MA to Wilmington, NC in 1994.

Al's years of service included chairing the Steering Committee that formed the Coastal Carolina Emmaus Community. He cherished his Reunion Group of 14 years and it's members. Worked on the formation of WARM, Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry, and served for a time as it's Chairperson. Following hurricane Floyd Al organized the District Disaster Response Center, with the Methodist Church, and later became a working member of our Conference Disaster Response Office. Al was active in United Methodist Men, serving as the District President, until recently.

For over 25 years Al and his wife served and led mission teams to Dominica, South Carolina, Florida, Guyana, South America, and Biloxi MS, following hurricane Katrina. They also worked and supported the Habitat for Humanity Organization. Summers found them enjoying trips north to visit with family and friends and attending Camp Bethel Camp Meetings on the banks of the Connecticut River. Their love of music and singing have led them joyfully into many choirs, and they are currently members of the Wrightsboro UMC Choir and the Wilmington Celebration Choir.

Al had a deep faith and zest for life. He touched many lives, first being the love he had for his family, and many more throughout the areas of ministry of which he served.

The family would like to thank everyone for all the love, support and prayers throughout this journey.

The Service of Salvation and Celebration will be held Sunday December 5, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. at Wrightsboro UMC. In the spirit of service the family encourages anyone who comes to the service to bring a donation of canned goods to the church's Food Pantry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Al Everett Memorial Fund at Wrightsboro UMC, 3300 North Kerr Avenue, Wilmington, NC 28405 910-762-2583 or the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.

Al was a great brother in Christ. It was a blessing to serve with him in the NC Conference United Methodist Men organization. Al was always upbeat, and a great witness for Christ. Like Abraham, "he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God (Hebrews 11:10)." I thank God for Al's life, and for the many people he touched in the Name of Jesus Christ. May we all be inspired to serve the Lord every day of our lives, as Al did!

Yours in Christ,
