CAROLYN HANSON Obituary

CAROLYN JANE HANSON

Carolyn Jane Hanson joined the heavenly choir April 2, 2013. She was born in Eldorado, AR, November 21, 1936 and married Wayne A. Hanson on May 13, 1957, in Fairbanks, Alaska and began a 30 year adventure with her US Army husband.

Jane suffered a massive stroke at her home, never regained consciousness and passed away in the NHRMC ER with members of her family at her side. She was predeceased by her parents John and Roxie Idom, grandson Brian Hanson and great-grandson Dema Hanson.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Col. Wayne Hanson (ret); sons, Brian, Bruce(Debi), Keith(Mary) and Eric; daughter, Julie Dawson(Scotty); seven grandchildren, Shawna, John, Danielle Hanson, Sarah and James Dawson, Sammie Pcola and Anne Curtis ; two great-granddaughters, Isabelle and Ariana Hanson and two brothers, Gordon and Ralph Idom.

Sharing a 30 year military career with her husband and family, Jane was the perfect Army wife, willing to move (19 times with five kids) at a moments notice and looking forward to new places and friends. With 25 years between her Sophomore and Junior years she graduated from the University of Alaska with a degree in Music Performance and later a teaching certificate. Jane had a beautiful soprano voice suitable from pop to musicals to opera. Getting involved musically where ever they were stationed, she sang leading roles in Augusta, GA, Wilmington, NC, and Karlsruhe, Germany. Her roles as Golde, Laurie, Fiona, Aldonza, and Ida received rave reviews. She was the managing director of the Thalian Association for the 1985-86 seasons, lead the Kure Memorial Lutheran church choir for 4 years and sang with various chorales and singing groups along the way.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 PM, Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the Kure Memorial Lutheran Church, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that donations be sent to Kure Memorial Lutheran Church, PO Box 1, Kure Beach, NC 28449.

Dear Wayne, I was so shocked & saddened to learn about Jane (7 years after her passing). You & Jane go way back with Phil & I to wonderful times in Karlsruhe, Germany. Jane was our choir director at Gerszewski Barracks & she was the head of 6 crazy women in the Singing Sweethearts. You played the sax & Phil played the bass.
I live just outside of Raleigh & for at least 15 years I tried to find you two, never knowing we were a little more than an hour away. I will always remember Jane as a vibrant, fun-loving woman with a twinkle in her eyes, a fabulous voice & great love for her family. I know you & your sweet family must miss her very much. If you ever want to relive old times please call me at (703) 203-3417 my cell phone, and God bless you.
Fondly,
Penny Schneider

Wayne, I just heard about your loss, and am shocked and saddened. I so much enjoyed visiting with you two at the reunion. The highlight of the reunion for me was hearing the three of you perform. You and Hugh were as wonderful as you had always been, but Jane had an extra sparkle that, as good as she had always been, she surpassed. She was so full of energy and joy. I will always remember her that way. I'm sure that extra sparkle and confidence came from a joyous life with you and your family. I send my heartfelt condolences.

Jane and I met performing in "Annie" at UNC-Wilmington back in the early 80s and that was the beginning of a long and wonderful friendship. Soon after I met Wayne at a cast party playing a wash-bucket bass. You just don't find better friends than these. The tremendous fun we had and the stories we still share (sleepless nights) will be with me always.

I hope your memories of Jane and of great times together help you though this very difficult time.
Love,

David DeWolfe

Mr. Hanson;

I'm deeply saddened to hear that Mrs. Hanson passed away. You guys, and Fort Greely, were like a home away from home for friends of Bruce and Keith's back when we were all attending UAF.

Dear Hanson family,
How very lucky are we to have met such a spunky, lively lady. She was a talented actress/ singer and we feel sure she's a feisty angel. Our daughter, who saw her recently, said wow she's an angel! That is so awesome!

How very lucky I was in becoming a member of the Hanson Family.

Jane: Your were the first member of the "Mrs Hanson" club to take me under your wing and mentor me as a young newlywed and eventually, a new Mom. Your were always ready for a chat, adventure and especially a shopping trip.

Your impact on this side was noble and full of accomplishments.

We will continue to remember and cherish all the things that made you "Jane". A very special person.

Love and thanks....Mary
