Charles Robert Woodrow Warner

Charles Warner Obituary

CHARLES ROBERT WOODROW WARNER 24, born Columbus, Ohio December 21, 1988, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 14, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Bexley Middle School in Columbus, OH and graduated from Laney High School in Wilmington, NC. He attended UNC Wilmington and Cape Fear Community College, also in Wilmington, NC. His life was much too short but very full: His 4H sheep was the best behaved sheep in the Madison County Ohio Fair arena and almost as big as him! In Ohio he played soccer on a U12 travel team when he was 9 and challenged for every ball. Indian Acres summer camp was his passion from his early years as a camper and his later years as a camp counselor - where he inspired hundreds of others to live life with intensity, sportsmanship and grace. His extended Indian Acres family spans the globe. He loved his campers and they loved him. Basketball was his favorite sport. Charlie played varsity basketball at Laney High School and was awarded the "Coach's Award" for his selfless team play - despite playing his entire senior year in a back brace with 2 stress fractured vertebrae. He was proud to have recently bench pressed 245 pounds - he was up to 192 pounds of muscle (from his previous 160). He had an infectious personality and a broad smile that would literally light up the room when he walked in - he was one of those charismatic people that brought positive energy with him. His many friends all over the world can attest to that. He is survived by his parents: Scott and Maggie Warner of Wilmington, North Carolina, Virginia Woodrow and Toni Donisi of Laura, Ohio, Siblings: Grace, Morgan, MaryFrances ("Mances"), Helen and Sam Warner, Grandparents: Beatrice Fulwiler of Englewood, Carlton and Sharon Woodrow of Cincinnati, Aunts and Uncles: Barb and Al Potyk of ME, Peggy and Joe Mark of Dayton, Marty and Kevin Rawers and Dick and Janet Warner of NC, Doug Woodrow of Englewood. Also cousins and other relatives. He was preceded by his paternal grandparents Bob and Fran Warner. In lieu of flowers we have arranged to begin the "Charlie Warner Coach's Award" and donations to Laney High School 2700 N. College Rd. Wilmington NC 28405 directed to the "Charlie Warner Fund" will go to fund a legacy for future players with hustle. A memorial service will be held in Wilmington NC at 2:00 pm Friday June 21st at Pearsall Presbyterian Church 3902 Market St. in Wilmington.

You were a true friend. Nearly two years later and Im no closer to understanding. Dont know what it was about today that brought you to my mind. I guess, every now and then, I try to think about the magnitude of our loss, but I just cant begin to quantify. Every now and then in life, we stumble across a person with a kind of gravity. Everybody can see it, feel it, but no one can really explain it. Charlie was one of those, maybe the greatest of them. His loss remains a tragedy for us all. Rest in peace my friend. You are missed.

I've never felt anything that compares to feeling of losing you. Everything is darker and sadder. I relive the moments I've had with you over an over again in my head. You are my hero charlie. I will never forget my amazing, loving, spontaneous, hilarious big brother. I lover you, loser.

"Chuck" as we called him @ Coral Reef Academy, was a great kid with a huge heart! He always brought his A- Game on the volleyball court and when it came to basketball he dominated. Glad I had the pleasure of meeting such an amazing kid with a positive outlook on life, regardless of the sitiuation we were in. You'll be missed Chuck!

Charlie grew from a darling, wild little boy into a man with an enormously loving heart and great compassion, who was a joy to be around and who I respected very much. I loved every minute of being his mother and his friend. I was very fortunate. I love him dearly, miss him terribly, pray that he is at peace, and feel blessed to have had him in my life. Thank you to all of his friends for sharing your memories and feelings about him. It has been a great comfort to us all.

Though I will miss him terribly, I also feel blessed to have been his mother.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Charlie's passing. He was such a kind, funny, intelligent, and resilient person, and I have no doubt he will be missed by countless people. In addition to his loss of life, his potential impact on this world is something I will mourn as I grieve with your family

Warner Family & Friends, Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of you along with our thoughts & prayers. His memories will live on with all of us.
Charlie was always so much smaller than everyone else on the soccer field, but played with so much energy, even if he was injured he never wanted to come out. Playing 2 to 3 years under everyone else made him step up and play harder and he never complained about anything... Charlie was such a great kid to coach and also just to hang out with. Charlie knew of the loss of my son and he was able to open up with me with problems he was having when he played soccer for me.
I know he will be missed by many, but keep him in your heart and he will live on forever, that I promise.
R.I.P Charlie Warner!!
