Donald James Lewis
DONALD JAMES LEWIS Donald James Lewis better known to family and friends as "Red" for his red hair in his youth passed quietly in his home October 2, 2017. He is preceded in death by his wonderful parents Jack Worth Lewis and Jo Hewitt Lewis as well as a sister Marylee Lewis Honeycutt. He is survived by the love of his life and business partner Beverly Lewis whose love and care of him was unmatched. He was also survived by his stepson's Jason Douglas and Josh Douglas; two granddaughters Kierstin and Peyton of Georgia; sister in law Donna Lee and Aunt Linnie Daniels from Georgia. He is also survived by his brother Jerry Crawford Lewis "JC" as well as his aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hewitt of Wilmington, NC Red was a fixture in the history of Pleasure Island. He also owned and operated the Fort Fisher Trading post for over 35 years and once he married Beverly they became quite the team. Red was injured in an accident in his youth that caused him to be partially paralyzed but that never stopped him from anything he wanted to do from fishing, hunting and always caring for others. He was known as a very giving and loving man to all. His sense of humor was dry and quick. A celebration of life will be scheduled and announced in due time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to an event that was close to his heart, The Got em On Live Bait Club's Cape Fear Disabled Fishing Tournament. This is hosted every year at the Kure Beach Pier and people come from all over to enjoy this event. Donations can be left at the Kure Beach Pier in his name. The Lewis Family would like to specially thank Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Dr. McCabb for their love and support. The Lewis Family also wants to thank The Kidney Foundation and all the staff at Davita for their love and support of Beverly and Red.

Red had a good heart a strong will and a lot of determination. He was a good friend to all of us that knew him while he was here on earth and he will be better when we see him again in Heaven. Rev. Thomas Williams/KBNC
