Edward Cunningham Obituary
Edward "Ned" Philo Cunningham, Jr. of Wilmington and Smithfield, NC died Monday, April 09, 2012 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.
He was born in Williamston, NC, January 30, 1922 the son of the late Edward Philo Cunningham, Sr. and Carrie Delle Blount Cunningham. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Reynolds Cunningham.
Ned proudly served with the 2nd Marine Division, 6th Regiment, Alpha Company during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife Jane Austin Cunningham, three children, Phil Cunningham, Jane Austin Graham (Franklin), and Delle Blount Wilson (Steve), nine grandchildren, Melody Edwardo (Alan), Ned Cunningham, Will Graham (Kendra), Roy Graham (Donna), Edward Graham (Kristy), Cissie Lynch (Corey), Carriedelle Wilson, Sarah Holt Gwathmey (William), and Austin Wilson and his fiance' Maggie, and nine great grandchildren, Marah Edwardo, CJ Graham, Rachel Graham, Quinn Graham, Caroline Graham, Roy Austin Graham, Charlotte Graham, Hannah Graham, and Liam Graham.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 215 S. 3rd St., Smithfield, NC 27577; the Mountain Retreat Association, 401 Assembly Dr., Montreat, NC 28757; or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.

To the Cunningham Family:
I only knew your Dad and Mom through business with Bynum. However, I have never met a warmer and more genuine gentleman. In the short time I knew Ned, he became one of my favorite clients. I consider it a great privilege to have known him.
