ERIS WORSLEY BURKS Eris Worsley Burks, 92, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center, Wilmington. She was born in Duplin County, NC, on March 3, 1923, daughter of the late Walter C. and Annie Pearl Southerland Worsley. She was a loyal member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for many years. She joyfully served in Bible School every summer until this year when she was no longer able. She regularly participated in the Prayer Room, baking for the bazaar, and providing refreshments for blood drives, and preparing meals for families at the Hospice Lifecare Center. She loved her church and she loved and faithfully served her God all of her life. Surviving Mrs. Burks are her daughters, Cathy Burks Hargett (Ernie) of Wilmington, and Barbara Burks Eavey (Greg) of Hampstead; three grandsons, James Hargett of Wilmington, Shaw Hargett (Susan) of Stockton, CA, and Jarrett Eavey of Hampstead; five great-grandchildren, Dacian (Anna Mayo), Will (Pamela Lee), Anderson, Carrington, and Grayson; a brother, Donald A. Worsley (Shirley) of Elizabethtown; sisters-in-law, Nancy B. Worsley, and Sandra Townsend (Thomas); and loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families. Mrs. Burks was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Callohill Burks; brothers, W. Cecil Worsley, Jr., George K. Worsley, and David R. Worsley. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Burks. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist, with the Rev. Beth Hood officiating. Mrs. Burks was an avid gardener much of her life. She loved flowers and always surrounded herself with blooms from her garden and those received from neighbors and friends. Flowers are welcomed or memorial gifts may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church; Boy Scout Troop #26 at Wesley; or Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Lifecare Center. Her daughters wish to express special gratitude for the support of our loving extended family and mother's friends; Dr. Sara Borcherding and the 5th floor staff at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, as well as the staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Lifecare Center.
