Francis Marion Foy Jr.

FRANCIS MARION FOY, JR. Francis Marion Foy, Jr. died early Sunday morning, July 21, 2013 at New Hanover Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born July 14, 1927 at Scotts Hill, North Carolina and was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Becker Foy, his father, Francis Marion Foy and mother, Sadie Batts Foy. He is survived by his two sons, Francis Marion Foy, III and Phillip Rodney Foy, his brother, Fred Foy and his wife, Sylvia from Punta Gorda, Florida and his nieces, Linda Foy of Sarasota, Florida and Karen Grossman of Miami, Florida. Francis spent many years of his youth helping with his family's grocery business, followed by being a member and officer of one of the first student bodies at Wilmington College. He served in the U.S. Navy. He returned home to work at Babcock and Wilcox as a quality control specialist and advanced to a management position until he retired in 1983. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and was a founding member of the Church's Methodist Men's Ministry. He was a member of the Elk's Lodge #532 and American Legion, Post 10. In 1989 he became Chairman of the New Hanover County Social Services Commission where he was pleased to serve the community until 1995. He will be greatly missed. His family and friends will always remember his colorful personality and his willingness to help others. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 23 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel on College Road. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1401 S. College Road, Wilmington, North Carolina, 28403. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
