Horace Burgess Obituary
BURGESS "H.T."
Horace Thomas Burgess "H.T.", 92, of Wilmington, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2009.
H.T. was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Ruby Ruark Burgess; his first wife Dell McGee Burgess; one brother Walter Burgess and three sisters, Hazel Ireland, Jewel Dodd, and Reba Livengood.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara Burgess; one son Bobby Matthews and wife Lynn; four daughters, Rebecca Lewis and husband George, Sarah Page and husband Peter, Mary Wright and husband Steve and Donna Carroll; one brother Reed Burgess; two sisters, Jackie Clinard and Melba Sidden; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 3 p.m. in the Oleander Chapel of Coble Ward-Smith with Rev.'s Keith Hollar and Robert Swart officiating. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time.
H.T. retired as an executive with Maola Dairies. He was a member of the E. Wilmington Rotary Club and Wrightsboro Baptist Church. He loved to fish, work in his garden and bowl. His greatest love was his family.
The family requests memorial donations be forwarded to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive Wilmington, NC 28401 or Wrightsboro Baptist Church Building Fund, 2736 Castle Hayne Road, Wilmington, NC 28401.

I am deeply saddened to hear of "Uncle Horace's" passing. I remember that he arranged for all that good Biltmore Milk to be delivered to our house when we moved to Winston-Salem. After their move to Wilmington, he would take us to his favorite fishing spot on Topsail Island when we visited.
Cookie, Sarah Beth, and Mary Kay, you are forever in my heart, thoughts, and prayers. Blessings to you all.
