John "Jay" Ferguson

1941 - 2016

JOHN "JAY" FERGUSON John "Jay" Ferguson, age 74, of Wilmington, NC, went Home with the LORD on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Born on August 11, 1941, he is the son of the late Clyde Ferguson and Irma Ferguson of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Beth" Ferguson; sister Ann Zeigler; as well as his daughter, Heather van Cleeff; his son, Douglas Ferguson; son-in-law Martin van Cleeff; and daughter-in-law Wendy Ferguson. He was the proud grandfather of 4 grandchildren: Saylor Ferguson, Darby Ferguson, Lucie van Cleeff, and Phoebe van Cleeff. Jay was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church; active in the CHEERS Sunday School class and on the Board of Trustees. He was the Director of Creekside Yacht Club and Director of B.G.C. The family would like to thank Dr. William Berry and his staff at the Duke Cancer Institute as well as our friends at West Marine and the College Rd. Hardees breakfast crowd. Thanks also to our Wesley Memorial family for all of their kindness and prayers. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM Monday, July 11, 2016, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1401 S. College Rd, Wilmington, NC. Fellowship will be afterward in the Gathering Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
