LOULIE EGGLESTON Obituary

LOULIE MURCHISON EGGLESTON Loulie Murchison Eggleston, 92, of Roanoke, died at home on Saturday, December 27, 2014. She was born on March 26, 1922 in Richmond, VA, daughter of the late David Reid Murchison and May Carmichael Murchison. Mrs. Eggleston graduated from Hannah More Academy - St. Timothy's School, Stevenson, MD and attended St. Mary's Junior College, Raleigh, NC. She and Mr. Eggleston were married in her hometown of Wilmington, NC on December 29, 1942 and had made Roanoke their home since 1947. Mrs. Eggleston always bloomed where she was planted. She was an active and dedicated member of St. John's Episcopal Church where she served tirelessly and faithfully in the preparation of food and fellowship for any and all occasions. Her second love was gardening. She was a 50-year member of Mill Mountain Garden Club and was instrumental in the founding and preservation of the Mill Mountain Wildflower Garden. Mrs. Eggleston was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the Junior League of Roanoke and the Roanoke Assembly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Beverley Purnell Eggleston, Jr., two brothers, David Reid Murchison, Jr. and Wallace Carmichael Murchison; granddaughter, Mary Freeman Eggleston and great grandson, Henry Carrington Coulter. She is survived by her four children; Beverley Purnell Eggleston III (Leslie) of Richmond, VA., David Murchison Eggleston (Mary) of Wilmington, NC, Jane Eggleston Coulter (Deke), and John Carrington Eggleston (Connie) all of Roanoke, VA; seven grandchildren, Beverley Purnell Eggleston IV (Janelle), Virginia Murchison Eggleston, Murray Keedick Coulter, III (Samantha), Carrington Eggleston Coulter (Jane), David Murchison Eggleston, Jr. (Allison), John Carrington Eggleston, Jr. (Susan), and Cabell Moore Eggleston; and four great-grandchildren, Mary Osha Eggleston, Rowan Francis, Loulie Maddox Coulter, and Martha Murray Coulter. She is also survived by her brothers Joel Williams Murchison and John Reid Murchison II. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to her devoted caregivers, Nellie Barnes, Phyllis Byrd, Malinda Reaves, Annette Williams and Nicole Woolridge. A memorial service will be held at St John's Episcopal Church at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, the Rev. Erin Hensley and the Rt. Rev. A. Heath Light officiating. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. John's Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 257, Roanoke, VA 24002 or Mill Mountain Garden Club Wildflower Garden, 3236 Somerset St, Roanoke, VA 24014.
