Maggie Mae Smith Lanier Butts

Maggie Mae Smith Lanier Butts, age 91, of Burgaw and formerly of Rocky Point, died Thursday, January 18, 2007, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 3, 1915, in Onslow County to Benjamin Franklin and Alice Julia Freshwater Smith. She was predeceased by her husband, William Lonzo Lanier, in 1947 and later married Mainton Earl Butts, who died in 1985. She was also predeceased by her son, William Taft Lanier.

Mrs. Butts was a member of Riley's Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Margie Ann Hajduk and husband, Raymond of Boiling Spring Lakes and Alice Jean Butts of Rocky Point; grandchildren, Chris Hajduk, John Hajduk, William Hajduk, Joseph Hajduk, Lynnette Sentowski, Timothy Hajduk, Ryan Cameron, Brian Lanier, William Lanier and Bradley Lanier; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and niece, Julie Jones of Jacksonville.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Riley's Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Hall and the Rev. Richard Phillips officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
