Margaret Elizabeth Hayes Batson

Margaret Elizabeth Hayes Batson, 88, of Wilmington, NC, died Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove.
She was born August 27, 1918, in Hopewell, VA, daughter of the late Ernest Hunter Hayes and Euomie Murrell Hayes, and was preceded in death by her husband, William Royal Batson.
Mrs. Batson, with her husband, Royal, owned and operated Batson Construction Company and the Golden Sands Motel at Carolina Beach. She was a member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her sons, William Batson (Marilyn) of Wilmington, Ernest Batson (Doris) of Wilmington; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Batson (wife of deceased son, Jessie) of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Jeff Batson (Terri), Wendy McCreery (Max), Tammy D'Lugin, Tina Marksteiner (Pete), Randy Batson (Eva) and Kimberly Verdugo (Blas); nine great-grandchilden; brothers, Willie Hayes of Leland, Royal Hayes (Doris) of Leland; also sisters, Julia Croft and Ruby Parker and husband Bill, all of Leland, NC. In addition to her husband, Royal, she was preceded in death by a son, Jessie "Bunny" Batson; and brothers, Robert, Clarence, Jessie, and David Hayes.
The family will receive friends at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2007.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Greenlawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Bill Braswell and the Rev. Jeanne Ray.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Pine Valley United Methodist Church, 3788 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC, 28403.
