MARLENE WEISGAL Obituary

MARLENE POHL WEISGAL

Marlene Pohl Weisgal became an angel in heaven on December 26, 2012, as she was an angel on earth.

The daughter of Irving & Eva Pohl born April 6, 1936, in Bronx, NY. She spent most of her childhood in Laurelton, NY, then moving to Oceanside NY where she raised her beautiful family with her husband Bert. In 1995 Marlene and her Bert moved to Wilmington NC where she would spend most of her time with her children and grandchildren. Spending time with them was the greatest gift and meant the absolute world to her, never missing a school play, concert, sporting event, it was truly her entire life! Cooking and feeding family and friends also made her feel her best. Another one of her favorite joys was gardening and tending to her beautiful African violets. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 57 years Bert, her loving children daughter Susan Weisgal Gallagher & husband Peter (who was like a son to her), son Bobby Weisgal, wife Kim, cherished & treasured grandchildren McKaleigh, David, Matthew, sister Elaine Hirsh, husband Lester Hirsh, brother-in law and sister-in-law Leo & Faye Weisgal. She is also survived by her wonderful nieces & nephews, Andrew, Kenneth, Jaron, Alyse, Judd, their wonderful spouses and families, many special loving cousins, their families and many, many beautiful friends.

We would like to give a special and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jonathan Hines, Dr. Anagnost and each of their impeccable staff members for taking such good care of mom and to Dr. Winneberger, the wonderful nurses and staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center for taking such loving care of our mom and being the blessings and the house of angels that they are!

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm Friday, December 28, 2012, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Marlene's name to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington NC

Bert, Bobby and Sue... My heart goes out to you and your families on the loss of Marlene. As long as it's been, I can still hear her infectious laugh. Too many of the old Woodward St. gang now reside in heaven - sadly, Jonas passed a couple of weeks before Marlene - but I like to think they've all met up again for at least one big block party, catered by Ben's, of course! I know it's been a year since she passed, but my thoughts and prayers are with you now and always.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you (Bert, Bobby, Sue, Peter, Kim and all Marlene's grandchildren)... Cousin Marlene was loved by us all; we will always remember her and Bert at our family simchas. Marlene's strength always showed -- her love for family, her love of friends, and her love of life. We will miss her but will always have fond and loving memories that span decades and locations, from Laurelton to Wilmington. Cousins Linda and Jerry, Elyse, Jason, Lisa and Leila Pohl....

Our deepest and sincere condolences to Bert, Bobby, Susan, their spouses & children. We have such fond happy memories of Marlene. We had so many laughs and happy times when we all lived on Long Island. Marlene introduced me to "duck al orange", which she cooked perfectly. Marlene was also my first employer, when I was her mother's helper for a summer way back when Bobby & Susan were young children. We're so very sorry for the loss of this wonderful person, but also thankful that she is no longer suffering. Our thoughts, prayers & love are with all who knew and loved Marlene.
