Merritt was a wonderful Christian man, and a dear friend. He and Mary Jane were very speical, a dear couple.
Merritt was a great Sunday School Teacher when I was a young teen and he influenced my life in so many ways. I loved him dearly.
He and his wonderful loving smile and ways will be greatly missed.

Please realize that both Alice and I are saddened at the passing of a great soldier of the faith. That said, we are sure that the faith, perserverance, shared love, joy, happiness and long suffering life that Mr. Merritt lived is reaping the promised reward of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The family is in our prayers.

The angels are rejoicing in heaven; one of God's chosen has come home! I pray that the example Mr. Merritt gave us all will carry through the generations. A man among men, a giant of a Christian. He leaves a beautiful legacy for his children. God bless all of you, in Christian love, Ila

Merritt,
What a blessing to have had your father for so long. I know that also makes it so difficult to have him leave earth for heavenly birthdays. I wish all children could have a Christian family like yours. My prayers are with you, Linda and the whole family at this time.

Mr. Merritt was truly a man among men. He was the kindest, most thoughtful person and I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. He will be missed by all. My prayers are with his family.

Merritt,
I met your father during my RBC years, and remember him as a man of great stature. Reading his obituary I found out about his devotion to the sea and his skill as a fisherman.
You admired him and he was proud of you.
You and your family have my sympathy.

My mom (Elmira McKinney) and my Grandma (Vertie McKinney) had so many great stories to tell of the Watson family and of the Christian love that was shown throughout the community in NE North Carolina. My love and prayers go out to the family in Lowland and abroad. I know that The lives and Christian witness of many were blessed in such unknown ways through his life with us.

I, personally, have been so blessed to have known him. All time spent with him was a blessing.
Roanoke Bible College (now Mid-Atlantic Christian University) was particularly blessed by his generosity in the late 60s and early 70s. We ate a lot of chicken in those days!
Heaven would be wonderful beyond description just because God is there. But, for me, it is enhanced each time someone like Brother Merritt joins the group!

What a man! I remember Mr. Merritt as one of the hardest working men I have ever known. He got that trait honestly. His mother, Miss Ada, was one of the hardest working women I have ever known. He was a farmer by land and a fisherman by sea. Because he was out to sea when others dared not go, he was known as "Old Salt." He was a gentle man with a quiet and pleasant demeanor. He left a positive influence on his fellow man.
