Ralph Barefoot Obituary

RALPH FLOYD BAREFOOT

He was born on August 4, 1929, in Hallsboro, NC, to the late Thomas Napoleon and Alma Baldwin Barefoot. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Francis Marie Peed Barefoot and his nine siblings: Daniel Paul "D.P." Barefoot, Woodrow Barefoot, Elbert Barefoot, Henry Barefoot, Edgar Barefoot, Ina Faye Rabon, Freddie Arbutus Barefoot, Malicia Victoria Stevens, and Sally Louise McDuffie.

Mr. Barefoot is survived by his two daughters, Gwen Barefoot Milligan and husband Dr. Laris Wayne Milligan of Wilmington and Lisa Barefoot Wooten and husband Jeffrey Scott Wooten, as well as, two granddaughters, Rachel Leigh and Rebecca Joy Wooten, also of Wilmington.

After completing his education in the Columbus County Schools, Mr. Barefoot lived almost every boys dream when he joined the McNally Circus and Picture Show.

Then after finishing a tour of duty in the Army in 1951, Ralph returned to the cinema business by managing a movie theater in Jacksonville, NC.

Next, Mr. Barefoot was employed by Southern Cleaners and Laundry of Jacksonville, NC. He became a pioneer on the dry cleaning business when he opened in Wilmington the first "One Hour Martinizing" which featured the then novel concept "Fresh as a Flower in Just One Hour", one hour dry cleaning service. He later opened Barefoot's Presto Cleaners and eventually retired from Barefoot's Dry Cleaning and Laundry Sales and Service in 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, February 8 at Andrews Market Street Chapel with Dr. Fred Senter officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: David Lee Stevens, George Stevens, Allen Peed, Roger Peed, Randy Peed, and Terry Peed. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Barefoot, David Barefoot, Jimmy Ray Stevens, Jimmy Ray Stevens II, Rickey Peed, David Peed, Gerald Peed, Tommy McDuffie, and F.M. Peed.

The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM prior to the service.

Following the interment a celebratory supper will be held to honor the life of Mr. Barefoot, "Daddy Ralph", at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Milligan, 5524 Dunmore Rd., Wilmington. Family and Friends are invited to attend.
