Robert Upton Obituary
Wilmington - Robert "Bob" Livious Upton, Jr., age 88, of Wilmington, NC passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, NC due to complications from his battle with Lewy body dementia.
He was born on March 2, 1933 in Norfolk, VA to the late Robert Livious Upton, Sr. and Margaret Blount Upton.
Bob was a US Navy veteran in the Korean War. He attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC as well as William and Mary College in Norfolk, VA. He resided in Succasunna, NJ before retiring from Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County, NJ. Bob previously served as a Deacon at Founders Baptist Church in Dover, NJ and later became a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will also be remembered as Wilmington Christian Academy's number one sports fan for many years, and all the athletes adored him.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hazel Fichter Upton; son, Robert Upton III (Tonya) of Wilmington, NC; daughters, Nancy Johnston of Wilmington, NC, Joanne Seal (Tony) of Wilmington, NC, and Joyce Attoe (Joel) of Middlesex, NC; sister, Joyce Upton of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Philip Johnston (Beth), James Johnston, Jacquelyn Meadows (Drew), Katheryn Moore (Ethan), Leighton Upton (Janelle), Shae Fisher (Colin), Julianne Attoe and Joel Attoe II; and great-grandchildren, Michal Ann Johnston and Calvin James Upton.
In addition to his parents, Bob was also preceded in death by his son, Paul Mark Upton; grandchild, Kenneth Bradford Seal; and son-in-law, Michael Johnston.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington with Pastor David Robinette officiating and the US Navy performing military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Charitable contributions in memory of Bob may be made to Park Avenue Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC.
