Dear Custer Family,
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you for the loss of Steve-I am so shocked and saddened by this news. I remember so many late nights all of us Lansdowne kids had hanging out with Ray at the Custer house. Steve was never the younger kid tagging along behind us-he was so independent and had such a laid back demeanor with that distinctive laugh of his. I did not know him as an adult but it seems he was a real success from what I have read. I hope some happy memories of him will ease your pain and loss.

I will never be the same without my best friend to talk to. Every day that goes by with out him I realize how much of an influence
Steve was to me in so many ways.
The music I listen to, my likes, my dislikes.
Even the words that come out of my mouth. I think of him every day.
My deepest sympathy goes out to all the Custer family. You know he was like a brother to me.

My recollections of Stephen are just as vivid and joyful as all who knew him. My lose is that they are all over 35 years old. My sorrow is in the loss of Stephen to his family but also the loss to those of us us who did not have or take the opportunity to know him as the man he was. My prayers are with Amber and the girls.

i'm happy to say that i knew steve, and enjoyed having him on my planet. it would've certainly been a lesser place without him. he had depth not normally witnessed.

i do not recall anyone with a bad word to say about him. how many of us can have that said about ourselves?

Stephen and I went to junior and high school together what seems like forever ago but also like yesterday. What I will remember most about Stephen was his laugh-it was infectious. I am so sorry for your loss and will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Aunt Irene, Uncle Ray, and the rest of the family, I was shocked and extremely sad to hear the passing of Stephen. Sometimes, even today, when I think about him I find laughter, I see him smile and I also find myself in tears. My childhood memories will live forever. And never will I forget him. He will be missed greatly! I am deeply sorry for your loss and may you find strength and comfort in God in this time of need.

To the family and friends of Stephen Custer,
Stephen worked for me at Bennigan's in Wilmington in what seems like a lifetime ago. He had an unusual wit and intellect. He was dependable as an employee, and loyal to his friends. I have not seen Stephen since that time, but am happy, yet not surprised that his life was filled with fun and success. May you find peace through faith in this difficult time.

There are those individuals who possess a larger than life presence and you are one of those people.
Your absence cannot be changed but your presence will be with us each day, different attributes for each person who keeps you in their heart; wife, father, mother, brothers, daughters, niece, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
We will hold Mackenzie and Abigail close and watch your qualities grow within them.

Peace be with you Stephen.
Peace be with everyone who misses you so….

Steve,

I am shocked. You were a wonderful friend, so full of life. I will never forget your kindness and patience as a trainer when we worked together at Corning. You have a wonderful family, and what a wonderful little girl Mackenzie is. You were always so optimistic, so fun, so bright and vibrant. I love you too Steve. I am crushed, and you and your family will forever be in my prayers. Your friend Bob Petrolino, Jr.

So many thoughts and emotions go through my mind when I think of Steve Custer. I cannot think of one but hundreds. His fantastic family, Ray, Irene, Raymond, Damien and Amber. Memories from dinner, prior to Midnight Mass at the Custers with Ray ensuring everyone had a Pink Squirrel... After a long night at Bennigan's working with his brother Damien and cooking with Steve. He would always have the most creative ideas. The countless nights that ended with us on the roof of Bennigan's kicking back... enjoying the sunrise and discussing family, friends, life... His sense of humor. His trip out to see Jimmy Stewart in Las Vegas.. Celebrating his elegant cooking dinner parties with family and friends, when I was a room mate with he and Keith Fishman. Going downtown with he and Cory and closing down Crooks after he worked all night at Figure 8.... The stories I think of are endless like the memories he has left in my life and my heart. I love you Steve and will always think of you with a smile and warmth in my heart.
