Sterling Ross Johnson

STERLING ROSS JOHNSON Sterling Ross Johnson, 86, of Wilmington, NC, passed peacefully at home April 5, 2015 after seeing the sunrise Easter morning. Sterling, also known as "Dr. Diesel" and "Johnnie", worked as a marine mechanic at Wrightsville Beach for many years. He was a veteran of the US Army, a member of St. Johns Lodge 1 and a lifelong member of Oleander United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir. Sterling is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Janice Reynolds Johnson; daughters: Ross Johnson Walls and husband Brad; Paula Johnson Paula and husband Henry; Cheryl Johnson; Coley Johnson; and, daughter-in-law Donna Christine Johnson as well as four grandchildren: Kristin Jope (LCDR. Adrian Jope USN); Allison P. Adams (Chris); Katie Walls; and, LCpl. Ryan Johnson USMC. Sterling and Janice also have four great-grandchildren: Jack-Henry, Sterling and Luke Jope and Preston Reynolds Adams. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, April 9, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Oleander United Methodist Church 5810 Oleander Dr., Wilmington, NC.
