THERESA SIMMONS PEMBERTON

Theresa Simmons Pemberton, 51, of Delco, went home to be with her Father in Heaven, October 1, 2008, after fighting a long battle with ALS.

Theresa was born October 1, 1957, in New Hanover County, NC. She was the daughter of the late William David Simmons and Thelma Garvey Simmons. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Allen Simmons and William David Simmons and sister-in-law, Brigette "BB" Cox.

Theresa was a member of Prosper Baptist Church and an employee of New Hanover Regional Medical Center where she had many wonderful and supportive friends .

Theresa is survived by her husband, Alvin Lewis Pemberton, Jr; Brunhild "Bruni" Giles, who was like a 2nd mother; two daughters, Angela Michelle Pemberton, and Christy Renee Pemberton, a son, Alvin Lewis Pemberton, III; three sisters, Virginia S. Dale, Rachel S. Vann, and Frances M. Rhodes; and a brother, Jesse Dwayne Simmons. Theresa was also known as "Mama T" to her grandchildren; Jarred Little, Calen Rising, Jerome Beck, and Lainey Rising. She is also survived by a nephew, William Hulbert; a niece, Heather Vann; a nephew, Kevin "Sugarboy" Little; a niece, Michelle Smith; and many other nieces and nephews. Theresa is also survived by brothers-in-law; Henry "Herbie" Giles and wife Kim, Scottie "Tat II" Pemberton and Brinda, James Kevin Little and Darrell Wayne Rhodes.

The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Friday at Prosper Baptist Church, Delco-Prosper Road, Delco. Funeral services will be held at the church Saturday at 2PM with Pastor Eddie Watts and Pastor Calvin Malpass officiating. Interment will follow in Prosper Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Clayton Dale, Jr. Mills, David Bordeaux, Terry Buffkin, Robert Earl Simmons, and Eugene Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be Grover Harrelson, Alvin Pemberton, Kevin Little, Jarred Little, Henry Giles, 5th, and Travis Giles.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Eddie Watts, Theresa's church family, the Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Fire/Rescue Dept, special friends; Susan, Hilda, Sharon, Patricia and Michelle and to everyone who provided support to Theresa and her family.

The family is requesting memorial donations be made to ALS Association, Development Dept, 27001 Agoura Rd, Suite 250, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301.

Even in the end, Theresa was a Soldier of God, leading people to the Lord.

My brother Al and family,

I'm sorry I can not be there in person to comfort you. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Theresa is with the Lord now and she is no longer suffering. You and Theresa were together over half your life(34 years) try and remember all the good times and happy memories you have shared.
