WILLIAM "BILL"

TALMADGE MALPASS

William "Bill" Talmadge Malpass, 74, of Wilmington, NC died Monday, January 28, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health.

He was born March 23, 1938, in Pender County, NC, the son of the late William James and Annie Stevens Malpass. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nelva Sandlin Malpass, and his brother, Jesse Malpass.

After graduation from Burgaw High School, he served active duty in the US Army and Army Reserves. He was then employed by Sears where he retired after more than 35 years of service.

Bill was truly an outdoorsman. As a young boy, he enjoyed squirrel and dove hunting. As years passed he also enjoyed farming and loved riding on his Farmall tractor. As his grandchildren came along, they became his passion. He spent many summer afternoons with his grandchildren sitting on the back porch watching the boats go by. He will always be remembered for his joyful spirit and playful attitude. He was a very loving husband, father, and gramps and will dearly be missed.

Surviving are his two daughters, Lynne Ellington and her husband Mark of Wilmington, NC, and Christa King and her husband Mark of Hampstead, NC; five grandchildren, Brandon, Jessica, and Ashley Ellington, and Mark Dean and Colby King; one sister, Shirley Harts and her husband Richard of Burgaw, NC; and one brother, Dan Malpass of South Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Scotts Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil Ortego officiating. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Mark Ellington, Mark King, Greg Harts, Brandon Ellington, Mark King, Jr., and Colby King.

The family will receive friends from 6PM until 8PM Wednesday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.

The family would like to express great appreciation to the health care professionals at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Davita Dialysis Center for their exceptional care.

To the Malpass Family,
May God always bless your family during this time of sadness but we can be overjoyed that if we truly love the Lord we will be reunited with our loved ones. I worked with your family at Sears for many years and feel that I was truly blessed in knowing him. I always found him to be kind, compassionate and a very great salesman.
God Bless,

I was very sorry to hear about Bill. When I was a young girl in college and a newlywed, I worked with you Dad in the TV department at Sears. He was always talking about his girls and you knew his family came first! When I returned to UNCW in the late 80's to get my teaching certification I had contact with your Mom. They were both very dedicated and caring people. I know you and your families are missing them. With deepest sympathy, Milta
