Dale VanDerSteeg Obituary
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of LaSalle with Rev. Jared Cochran, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Vincent's Cemetery, LaSalle. Visitation will be 9-10:50 AM Saturday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.
Dale was born April 15, 1941 in Chicago to David and Helen (Evers) VanDerSteeg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. He married Cheryl Hellmich on October 5, 1973 in Collinsville, IL.
After moving to LaSalle in 1986 from Hamilton, Ohio, Dale and his wife, Cheryl owned and operated the Napa Auto Parts store in Peru for 16 years. Following retirement, Dale fulfilled his ambition of driving an 18-wheeler and worked at Double D Express in Peru for 10 years.
Dale attended First Baptist Church of LaSalle. He had a passion for trains and loved model railroading and boating. Most of all, he loved the Lord, his family, and his dog, Torri.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; one daughter, Andrea (Nate) Lunger of Sun Prairie, WI; three granddaughters, Samantha, Elizabeth, and Hannah; two brothers, Wayne (Ruth Ann) VanDerSteeg of Lakeland, TN and Glenn (Grace) VanDerSteeg of St. John, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial contributions may be directed to LaSalle-Peru Christian School in LaSalle.
