To the Bishop Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Please accept my sincere condolences. Losing a loved one in death can be a very traumatic experience. The Bible encourages us: "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt YOU in due time; while YOU throw all YOUR anxiety upon him, because he cares for YOU" (1Peter 5:6,7)

What a great loss this world has experienced...I had the privilege of chatting with Mr. Gene this past New Year's Eve at Southern Woods. Conversations with him were always so interesting and inspiring. He even invited "us" to come to Africa "anytime...just let me know when..." What a man he was...He will be greatly missed by our family...

Gene was a very special man, He will be missed

March 28, 2011

Gene Bishop was one of the sweetest men I have known in my life. We had a special admiration for each other. We both came up hard and managed in our own ways to make good things happen in our lives. He ALWAYS let me know that he was there for me if I needed ANYTHING. Tom Coleman and I visited with him in his home last year and his "same old stories" always had a special flare. It breaks my heart to know that he isn't around to be an old man. He loved his children and grand children, he loved Sherry and he loved Nancy.
One thing is for sure, he missed nothing in his lifetime. He did it all! Gayle Sexton

As a West Fulton High classmate of 1953, I always admired Gene's business acumen and success in so many varied ways, his radiant friendship, and his interest in other people. What a success he was in so many ways! He accomplished so much.

Each and every year, on the day after Christmas, my family and the Hatcher family enjoy an annual quail hunting trip at Southern Woods Hunting Lodge. Through the daily meals and the social relaxed atmosphere in the lodge, we came to know Gene and the Addison family who always visited the Lodge at the same time. Late nights at the Lodge were filled with great conversation about Georgia Southern University, hunting, family, Africa and even how to solve some of the worlds problems, apparently some of Gene's favorite topics. My children loved hearing Gene's stories. Gene was fun to be around, he seemed to be comfortable and at peace at the lodge. To Nancy, Lindsey, Trip, Chris, Drew and Shanna my heart and prayers go out to each of you, Gene left a large footprint to follow, he will truly be missed.

Remembering Gene Bishop as a great person. Growing up he and Sherry Bridges were like second parents to my group of friends and I. Gene was a big infulence in the health care career that I chose. Couldn't imagine not having him as a role model. He will be missed by all. My condolence to his family.

GENE WAS A GREAT PERSON AND A TRUE EXAMPLE OF WHAT THE JAYCEE TRAINING OF THE DECADE OF SIXITIES DID TO MANY INDIVIDUALS.
HIS LEGACY IS THE LIVES OF MANY PEOPLE THAT HE TOUCHED IN A POSTIVE MANNER. THE RESULTS OF THE SEEDS HE PLANTED WILL LAST FOR MANY FUTURE DECADES.

Our sympathies to the Bishop-Addison Family. We knew of Gene and his kindnesses but his presentation to my class two weeks ago showed my students and me what a truly 1st class person he really was. What an inspiration he is to all that have had the opportunity to know him. He lived with passion for his family, his country and Georgia Southern!!!!

We always enjoyed the time spent with Mr. Gene when he came down to Southern Woods. I have been a hunt guide off and on for years there, and had the pleasure of being in his company just last weekend. He was a great fellow and will be sorely missed by us all.
