Margaret Skinner Obituary

Margaret "Meg" Collins Skinner died at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center on October 15, 2024, of injuries resulting from a fire at her home on North Main Street, Statesboro, Georgia.
She was the daughter of James Perry Collins and Helen Peterson Snooks Collins, who had made Statesboro their home since 1944.
Meg was born in Savannah, Georgia, on July 31, 1954, and raised in Statesboro. She graduated from Woodward Academy in Atlanta and earned a bachelor's degree in music from Converse College in South Carolina and a master's degree in music from The University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.
Meg rarely missed a party and had a great sense of style. Those who knew her will remember her keen wit, sharp observations and unique way with words.
In her early days, she was a consummate pianist and violinist. Her deep love of music was a consistent theme in her life from road trip sing-alongs to concerts and Broadway musicals.
Though devotedly committed to her hometown and community, Meg was adventurous and travelled the world throughout her life from Australia to Tibet.
She was always quick to lend a helping hand to others in need.
Meg was an avid reader and owned and operated a bookstore, The Book House, in The Statesboro Mall for several years.
She exhibited tremendous love for her nieces, nephew, great-niece and great-nephews, who affectionally knew her as Monk Monk.
Meg was a lifelong member of The Statesboro First United Methodist Church.
Meg is survived by her husband, Stephen Lloyd Skinner; and her sister, Lynn Collins Skinner (Sterling "Skip" Skinner). She is also survived by her nephew, Sterling Skinner Jr. (Hannah); and nieces, Helen Cooper (Jim), Mary Skinner (Troy), Germaine Brown (Randy) and Sarah Burk (Brady); many great-nephews and one great-niece.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at The Statesboro First United Methodist Church followed by visitation in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to The Statesboro First United Methodist Church or Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Friends may sign the online register book at www.joineranderson.com.
Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

Meg came to a Maurer reunion at the beginning of August. Her husband, Steve, was the grandson of the original Maurer to come to Plainfield MA at the beginning of the 20th century. We were so glad she was able to share in Steve´s recollections of stories of his Grandmother, and Uncle, and all the fun things we did as kids growing up.
She also participated in our family version of the Olympics, playing either croquet, Bocce, or as a grand cheerleader from the sidelines. Always a smile on her face! You will be missed for sure. Love, Cynthia and David Barnard
