Sheri Harshman Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Sheri Fordham Harshman announces Sheri's sudden passing on August 19, 2020.
Sheri was born in Savannah, Georgia. She grew up in Statesboro, Ga., and was a 1974 graduate of Statesboro High School. Sheri attended Georgia Southern College, where she earned a degree in office management.
Sheri was an active leader with the Park at Glenn Arbor Neighborhood Association, where she served as block captain. She wrote the neighborhood newsletter, planned Easter egg hunts, Christmas parades, Halloween trick or treats, July 4th family gatherings and many other events that encouraged fellowship among family and friends in the neighborhood.
She enjoyed creating beautiful landscapes, working in her garden, scrapbooking, reading, shopping and spending time with her cats.
She is a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church.
For the last 20 years, Sheri worked as the office manager for Dr. Core La, MD PA, whom she adored. He, his staff and patients were like a second family to her. She loved them as much as they loved her.
Sheri will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 41 years, Jack Harshman; her mother, Lorene B. Rigdon; her brothers, Mark Fordham, Gary Fordham; her sister, Lisa Ruffo; her stepdaughter, Catherine Holder; stepson, Curtis Harshman (Becky); sister-in-law, Sally Parkison; nieces, Taylor Byrne (Tom), Montana Jackson (Brad), Savannah Fordham; nephews, Blake Fordham, Chase Ruffo (Rosie); grandchildren, Jeremy Harshman and Brittany Meeks (Josh); several great-grandchildren, great-nieces, cousins and many wonderful friends.
Sheri was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Cay Fordham; brother-in-law, Scott Parkison; and granddaughter, Christina Harshman.
The service will be held Monday, August 24th, in the chapel of Klein Funeral Homes & Memorial in Spring, Texas, at 10 a.m. in the morning. Pastor Shuler Sitsch of Lakewood United Methodist Church will preside over the service.
Friends and family may begin to gather for fellowship at 9:15 prior to the service. Masks will be required.
Interment services will be held at a date yet to be determined in the All Saints Garden of Lakewood United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, you may give a gift in Sheri's memory to the Lakewood United Methodist Church, 11330 Loretta Road, Houston, TX 77079.

Jack, so sorry to learn of Sherri's passing. I was searching for contact information to let Sheri know Sarah mentioned her in the acknowledgements of her first cookbook that is being released this week. Both of you were very influential in her life and loved very much.

Words cannot express my sympathy. While working at the hospital and visiting Shari, she was always pleasant, compassionate, willing to take the time to talk with me, and trustworthy. When she found out my daughter had a premature delivery in Savannah, Shari had her sister call my daughter to give her support and encouragement. Shari was always willing to listen and help. Shari was a dedicated worker and always wanted the best for Dr. La and his practice as well as his patients. I will sincerely miss Shari and her bright smile.

So, so sorry to hear Sheri's passing. She was such a loving and caring person. She certainly cared about the PGA as she was the one who thought it would be a wonderful idea to start a woman's club in PGA and had an inception luncheon. She actually talked me into being the president - I refused and refused but how could anyone refuse such sweetness? I have very fond memories of her with the woman's club, playing bunco, the luau and of course the progressive dinners! After my husband and I moved from Tomball, thinking of Sheri always put a smile on my face and warmness in my heart. Sheri was such a light in many people's lives. Our sympathies and prayers go to Jack and their families.

What unbelievably sad news this morning to hear of sweet Sheri’s passing. Oh my, dear Jack, we send our deepest condolences. For many years the both of you sat right in front of us in early service at Lakewood UMC. I would always look for her cute red head and know it was time to worship. She sent me cards when I was having health issues of my own. Oh, how very thoughtful she was. Oh, how appreciated her words were. May she rest in his arms and make a place for you all. Love and hugs and prayers, dear Jack.

Sherry was a wonderful person who was always ready to do anything with a smile. She was working for my colleague Dr. la next door to my office and she was an important member of our extended working family. She will be sorely missed by all. May the Lord comfort her family and friends as we know that she is in a better place now.❤

I have had the pleasure of working along side Sheri at the office building where she worked for so many years and she was always a ray of sunshine to all of us. we manage the building and Sheri would always go out of her way to show us how much she cares whether it was a monthly breakfast drop off to the team or a phone call or stop in - i will miss her adorable laugh and her accent but most of all her sweet soul. I know her team and Dr. La are very saddened by this and my thoughts and prayers are with them and her love for the last 40 years.

I'm still in shock upon finding out about Ms. Sheri's sudden passing. Little did I know then when I ran into her at Solis WH Mammography on Friday, 12-13-2019, would be my last encounter with such a sweet, kind, and compassionate soul. She was always so bubbly and humble, never had a harsh word about anything or anyone. I clearly can still hear to this day, her angelic sweet voice saying to me whenever I greeted her in the building: " oh honey, just call me Sheri, you don't have to say Ms. Sheri." Since I grew up in a very strict upbringing that you don't ever address an elder person on a first name basis, there always has to be a preceding title of either Mister or Ms, so needless to say, I was very accustomed to addressing all adults in that manner; therefore, it was no exception when it came to Ms. Sheri. However, with her humbleness and sweetness, Ms. Sheri had always insisted that I just call her "Sheri" without the "Ms" in front of her name. So my dearest, sweetest Ms. Sheri, in honor of how long I've known you, here's what you've always wanted but I could never complied: Rest in Peace "Sheri", I love and miss you so so much and I will see you in Heaven one day sweetheart!

Heaven has gained an Angel by the name of "Sheri" on 08/19/2020.

Our deepest condolences to Jack and family. First let me say how thankful I am that my mom has such wonderful neighbors. And Sheri and Jack are In the top tier. Sheri not only checked on mom every chance she got, but would pick her and another senior neighbor up and drive them around for judging all the neighborhood special events. They enjoyed that so much, but most of all it made them feel Important and a part of neighborhood events. Sheri knows mom considered her an adopted “daughter”. She loved her dearly. Thank you Sheri for all your kindness. I know you have a front row seat in heaven! God Bless you Jack and your family.
Much love,
Mary Ellen Cassoni’s daughter Deborah & Family

Sheri was kind, warm hearted and one of the sweetest people I've had the opportunity to work with the last 2+ years. She loved to talk about her family, gardening and always made time in her day to ask about my family. She was always an advocate for Dr. La and their patients. When COVID-19 impacted the hospital I work for, it was Sheri that pushed for and helped come up with a process for registering moms to be and surgical patients over the phone that potentially saved lives. Only a week or two ago Sheri left me a voicemail I've listened to a couple of times the last few days. The world was a better place with Sheri. I'll miss my friend dearly.
Blessings for Sheri's family.
Sincerely,
Marcus

Kurt and I extend our most heartfelt sympathies to Jack and to his and Sheri's families. As neighbors of Sheri, we experienced how easily bringing people together was for her. She was a rare soul - always kind, a smile and friendly word for everyone she met, a desire to help and serve, and a can-do attitude. She brought liveliness to our neighborhood and was always striving to create a special feeling of cimmunity here. We will miss her terribly. Rest in peace, Sheri, and thank you for everything you did for your neighbors in PGA!
