Alice Underwood Obituary

Alice Faye Rowell Underwood Alice Faye Rowell Underwood, 76, of Austin, TX, passed away January 23, 2011. Alice Faye was born in Columbus, Georgia on February 17, 1934 to Walter C. and Lillian Rowell. She grew up in Columbus, graduated from Baker High School and Perry Business College and was an alumnus of Georgia Southern College. Alice Faye lived in cities other than Columbus, including Austin, TX, but Columbus was always in her heart and was home to her. Alice Faye was a member of Hamp Stevens United Methodist Church where she met and married Billy B. Underwood. She worked as the church secretary for many years, but also enjoyed being a member of the church where she developed so many wonderful relationships with friends and family. Alice Faye had several employers, but greatly enjoyed the many years of service working in School Food Services within the Muscogee County School District. She treasured the many friendships that were cultivated while working there. Alice Faye and Billy B. Underwood, Sr. were married for 46 years. They had two sons, Billy B. Underwood, Jr. and Bruce R. Underwood. Alice Faye cherished her family. Her light shone brightest when she was cooking and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Alice Faye's family is grateful for the loving compassion, support, and care received during this difficult time. The family is most thankful to Barbra Brunson and other loyal friends who honored her with their visits, prayers and thoughtfulness. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and caring staff at Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas, and the compassionate staff at the wonderfully peaceful Christopher House of Hospice Austin. Alice Faye is preceded in death by her husband, Billy B. Underwood, Sr.; her son, Billy B. Underwood, Jr.; and her parents Walter C. and Lillian R. Rowell. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Kelley Underwood; and grandchildren Amy and James Fallings, Bryant and Heather Underwood, Jonathan and Jennifer Underwood, Stephanie Underwood, and Alyson Underwood; great-grand-children, McKenzie Rooks, Malachi Rooks, Kaylee Underwood, Garret Underwood, and Abigail Underwood. Funeral services will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary at 3:00 p.m., January 29, 2011, Columbus, Georgia. Visitation with family will be January 28, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice Austin 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Suite 100, Austin, Texas 78759 or to a charity of your choice.

Bruce, when I found out that Ma Underwood had passed away today another part of my heart became empty. I cherish all the good times we had at church and through out life. Ma was a Truly Great and Wonderful Lady and always taught us that good is in everything that God has made. I am glad I was able to be a part of your family for so long and know we'll all meet again in our Fathers House.

Dear Family...We are so sorry to hear about Alice. She was the highlight of Muscogee County School Lunch. We enjoyed laughing with her and seeing her all through the years. May the memories help heal the broken hearts.

Bruce and Kelley,
I know this is such a difficult and bittersweet time. Bruce, as you look back on the blessed life of your mother, and the wonderful relationship you shared, I know its very sad to see her pass on. However I hope the memories, and knowing she is now with your Dad and brother up in heaven help lighten this sad time.
You are both in my thoughts and prayers and will be thinking of you especially during the services in Gerogia.
Love you dearly,
Kathy
