March 29, 1944 - Aug. 29, 2004 Ana Kuan Graham of Austin died on Sunday, August 29, 2004, after a valiant seven year battle with breast cancer. She was born to immigrant Chinese parents in Lima, Peru, and came to the United States in 1966 to marry her returned Peace Corps fiancé, Anthony (Tony) B. Graham. Determined to learn English, she struggled with her new language and in 1977, graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin, with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Ana loved children, teaching, the learning process, reading, writing, and Winn Elementary School in East Austin where she taught for 26 years. She also cherished her beloved mini pig, dogs, cats, birds, turtles, fish, and one fat salamander. Ana was preceded in death by her parents, Arturo and Aida Kuan, two sisters, Carmen Wong and Aida Loo, and one brother, Jorge Kuan, all of Lima, Peru. She is survived by her husband, Tony Graham of Austin; two brothers, Donato Kuan and his wife, Teresa, and Julio Kuan and his wife, Elva, of Lima, Peru; and two sisters, Rosa Lam and her husband Mario of Toronto, Canada, and Susana Kuan of Lima, Peru. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews; and by her sister-in-law, Marta Sebastian of Bastrop, and her brother-in-law, Michael Graham and his wife, Carol Finsrud, of Lockhart. At Ana's request, there will be no public funeral service. A gathering of friends, in celebration of her life, will be held at a future date.
