LEE, Bessie

Bessie Lee was born to Louis and Area Roland DeShay on June 28, 1916 in Dale, Texas. She attended Elroy public schools in Elroy, Texas. Bessie confessed her hope in Christ at a young age and was baptized under the auspices of Reverend Henry Hill at Bonners Chapel Baptist Church in Elroy, Texas.



In her youthful years Bessie lived and worked in Corpus Christi, Texas. She later moved to Austin where she met and married Lee Edward Thompson Sr. in 1955 and with this union came four children, Joe Ed, Lester, Rose Kathryn and Lee Edward Jr. Bessie joined the Del Valle Baptist Church in Del Valle, Texas where she enjoyed many years of fellowship with her husband.



Bessie worked many years for the Goodnight family where she was known as a loyal and faithful employee. After retiring Bessie became a homemaker where she continued to work tirelessly making sure her home was immaculate.



Her parents, Louis and Area, three brothers, and six sisters preceded her in death.



She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy, one son, Joe Ed (Dorothy) of Milpitas, California, one daughter, Rose Kathryn Ross of Las Vegas, Nevada, three daughter-in-laws, Joyce Wilson of Oxnard, California, Georgia Thompson of Las Vegas, Nevada and Marie Moore Thompson who was also a loving and devoted friend, 18 grand children (three are deceased), and many great and great-great grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Thressa Terry and Dora Lee, four brother-in-laws, Theo Thompson (Pauline), Albert O. Thompson, Harold Thompson (Carlotta) all of Austin, Texas and William Thompson (Leona) of Missouri City, Texas, four sister-in-laws, Margaret Raven of Houston, Texas, Helen Armstrong of San Antonio, Texas, Bobbie Nell Thompson and Mildred Thompson both of Austin, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends of the Cherrywood neighborhood.



Visitation is Wednesday, March 19th 1:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at King Tears Mortuary Chapel located at 1300 East 12th Street. Family will received visitors from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. Homegoing Celebration is Thursday, March 20th at 12:00 Noon at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church located at 2938 East 13th Street, Austin, Texas 78702.
