Bob NICHOLAS Obituary

NICHOLAS, Bob

Bob Nicholas beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and co-owner of Nicholas Brother's Shoe Repair, fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, April 6th, at the age of 87.

Bob was born on July 18, 1926, to John and Amelia Attra Nicholas in Austin, Texas. As a young boy, he learned how to be a business man and shoe repairman from his father who operated a shoe repair business at 422 East Sixth Street. He and his brother, Nick, inherited the successful business from their father and turned it into a thriving partnership which was known as Nicholas Brother's Shoe Repair. The two Nicholas brothers worked side by side for almost 40 years, until their retirement in 1982.

Bob was very proud of his Lebanese heritage. He was a founding member of the American Lebanese Association. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling in a league, playing poker and dominos with his Lebanese buddies, and growing beautiful flowers. He excelled at all of these activities.

Bob is survived by his loving family, his beloved wife of 67 years, Emma Attal Nicholas, his daughter, Laura Nicholas Roberts, his son, Robert Nicholas, Jr. and wife, Sally, and his 5 grandchildren: Jessica Howard, Douglas Roberts and wife, Rochelle, Jennifer Onkst, Lauren Hartsook and husband, James, Falon Dill and husband, Tony. He is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Rylinn and Brooklyn. He is survived by his sister, Vivian Joseph and husband, Raymond and brother, Jerry Nicholas and wife, Carol.

Pallbearers will be Douglas Roberts, James Hartsook, Tony Dill, John Nicholas, Nick Nicholas and John Mecey.

Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar on Thursday, 10th of April 2014 at 6pm until 7pm, immediately followed by the Orthodox Trisagion service. The funeral will be held at St. Elias Orthodox Church, 408 East 11th St, on Friday, 11th of April 2014 at 10 am. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery. The Very Reverend David Barr will officiate.

The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Kenneth Kroll and to Bob's devoted caregivers Dana, Tracy, and Josie.

Bob was a bowling man in his senior years. Before that he pitched baseball after hours. He was a sporting man! I don't think he ever met anybody he didn't like. About 20 years ago I was standing in my usual pew at church and this older fellow bumped into me as he was trying to get into the pew. He was extremely polite and his eyes had that sparkle. I'm Bob Nicholas he said. Move over. We were pew partners for at least 12-14 years until he could no longer stand and see any humor in it and had to retire from church attendance. Bob was a loveable guy with a brilliant sense of humor. I've missed him every Sunday the last four years. Memory eternal, Bob. You will be remembered and always loved.

Emma and family; I am so sorry for your loss. I only knew Bob for a few years as we bowled together in leagues and various tournaments. He was a dear friend and a nice gentleman. I know that he will be missed by everyone who ever knew him.
