(01/10/2003) Charles ``Wayne'' Whited passed away peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2003, at the age of 73. Born in Dill City, Oklahoma, on March 28, 1928, Wayne was an Austin resident for over 30 years having settled here after retiring as First Sergeant from the United States Army after 24 years of military duty. His last assignment was with the 593rd Engineer Company in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was a highly decorated veteran serving in both Korea and Vietnam. His many commendations include the Bronze Star. While in Austin, Wayne worked for Montgomery Wards and again retired after 20 years. He remained active by working part time at Manor Downs Racetrack. He was also a volunteer at the Austin Food Bank. He loved hunting and fishing along with his weekly Bingo. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Arvil Whited and Velma McFall; and brother, Allen all of San Andreas, California; brother, Lloyd of Fort Bragg, California. He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Patricia ``Pat''; oldest son, Charles ``Butch'' Jr., his wife, Penny and their children, Chad and Amanda; daughter, Maureen Lucey, including Andres Martinez and their daughter, Angela ``Annie''; son, Thomas, his wife, Julia and their children, Elizabeth, Matthew and Catherine; son, Kenneth and his wife, Marcy and his youngest daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Kevin Kloesel and their children, Ryan and Megan. Wayne is also survived by brother, Alfred Whited and sister-in- law, Judy Whited of San Andreas, California; sister, Ellen McFall of Stockton, California; and brother, Bill McFall of San Andreas, California. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Norman Regional Hospital for their devoted care and support during his illness. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2003, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook- Walden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Sacred Heart Church at 5909 Reicher Drive afterwards. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 13, 2003, at the V.A. Cemetery in Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorials be made in Wayne's name to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 26460, Austin, Texas 78755-0460.
