David L Simiele, of Georgetown, Texas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on October 8th, 2023, after a 30-year battle with prostate cancer. David was born on June 18th, 1936, in Columbus, OH, to Victor A. Simiele, M.D., and Madolyn (Foley) Simiele, R.N. David graduated from Carroll HS, where he had been an active choir and quartet singer, band member, baseball player and starting guard for the varsity basketball team. He pursued a pre-med degree for two years at Miami University, where he pledged to Sigma Chi. In 1956, he elected to serve his country with the U.S. Army for two years before being honorably discharged to return to The Ohio State University. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Western Reserve Law School, where he served on the Editorial Board for the Law Review. He was President of the Sigma Theta Epsilon National Law School Fraternity.
David spent 45 years practicing law in Canton, OH, with Krugliak, Wilkens, Griffith, and Dougherty as a corporate trial attorney specializing in business and banking law, particularly bankruptcy. He served as the President of the firm's title company for ten years and was very active with the Stark County Bar Association, where he was Chairman of the Bar Applicant Committee for 33 years. David served on the Ohio State Bar Association Banking, Commercial, and Bankruptcy Committee for 42 years.
In addition to his professional associations, David was a longstanding member of Brookside Country Club, where he was a Chair. David was also a Chair of the Lake Cable Recreation Association, where he resided for over 20 years. David was a devoted member of Church of the Savior United Methodist (CotSUM), where he and Marcie were married and, subsequently, both of his daughters. At CotSUM, David was the Vice Chairman of the Administrative Council, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and President of the Men's Club. David was an active congregation member and enjoyed attending and chairing numerous Methodist Men's events.
In February 1964, he fell head over heels in love with Marcie Lakios when she walked in the door of a dance. He stole her away from her date and married her the following Spring, in March 1965. Over the years, they enjoyed hosting parties and spending time with friends and family. David loved to play tennis and golf. He coached his children and grandchildren in softball, tennis, and golf. David and Marcie enjoyed traveling together, including trips to Italy and Russia and summer trips to Cape Cod and their treasured Ft. Walton Beach retreat. They shared their love of traveling with their granddaughter, Madison. David and Marcie moved to Georgetown (Austin), TX, in 2009 to be closer to their daughter Stacy and her family. David actively supported his granddaughter Reagan's Air Force events, especially the car show with his 1956 Thunderbird. David proudly cheered for his grandson Hudson, who shared his unique sense of humor at his football games up to the week he passed.
David leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Marcie (Lakios); his two daughters: Vicki Bell and Stacy Komendera and her husband Rick; three grandchildren: Madison Edgington and her husband Paul, Reagan Komendera, and Hudson Komendera; two great-grandchildren: Grayden and Kade Edgington and his nieces Suzy Siebert, Jody Price and Beth Weaver.
