Edward Corbett Obituary

Edward H. "Pete" Corbett Edward H."Pete" Corbett, of Elgin, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the age of 80, our wonderful husband, father, grandfather, (Pap-pa), brother, nephew and friend left this world to be with his loving Savior. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ivy and Dippy Corbett, sister, Carrie Bell Little and brothers, William and Walter Corbett. Pete was born on February 7, 1931, in Fountain, NC and honorably served his country for twenty years in the United States Air Force, retiring with a rank of Tech Sergeant. For twenty-four years, he was supervisor at Payne Brick Company, and then for eleven years he drove for Wallace Lundgren dealership. Pete was a fine Christian man who loved the Lord. He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Elgin where he served on the Building and Lord's Supper Committees and also served as usher. Pete also belonged to the Elgin Masonic Lodge from which he received his Master Mason fifty year pen that he cherished along with his Bible. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley, son Gary and wife Jill, grandchildren Zoe and Jeffrey; daughter, Donna Lane and granddaughter Wendy Holt and sons Steven and Patrick; grandsons David Holt and wife Mariana and son Tristan; and Jason Holt and wife Lisa and daughter Marissa and son Ryan; sister Annie Laura Johnson and sister and husband Nannie Lee and H.P. Norman, plus many many dear friends. We wish to acknowledge Amanda Amaya, Tina Ballman , and Angela Belcher and other members of Austin Hospice, all of whom were amazing and taught us all so much. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Austin Hospice, American Cancer Society and the First Baptist Church of Elgin. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, Elgin. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, Elgin, with burial following at the Elgin Cemetery. My thoughts and prayers go out to shirley and the family. Pete was and will as well be remembered as a strong loving caring man. I enjoyed our talks I was blessed enough to have met Pete over 16 yrs ago knowing him and Shirley . All I can say is Pete was a strong loving caring man and i will soarly miss him . God is now blessed with a wonderful angel . I will miss him but God shared him with us so now I have to be happy to share him with God .
