Everett Daugherty Obituary

Everett Daugherty Everett Daugherty, 81, faithful husband, caring father and doting grandfather, died peacefully March 16, 2013, after a hard fight with cancer (which he beat) and pneumonia. He was born on November 18, 1931, to parents Asa and Carrie Daugherty in Fostoria, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Annabel, children Linda and David Carr, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, Nancy and James Oliver, of Austin, David and Kim Daugherty, of Midland, Texas, Becky and Dennis Crumley, of Austin, and son-in-law Hardy Ingram, of Copperas Cove, TX, 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Asa Daugherty, Jr., and Robert Daugherty. He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 siblings and his daughter, LuAnn Ingram. Everett was in the US Air Force for 3 years before beginning a 17 year career in the US Army which included attending Orange Coast College in California for computer programmer training. His military service included two tours in Korea and one in Viet Nam, and was awarded 9 medals. He was also stationed in 5 states and overseas in Germany. He then pursued a 20-year career with the State of Texas continuing his work as a programmer. After retirement he spent many hours making wooden toys for his grandchildren, bowling on a league which he had done for decades, playing games with friends and family, and enjoying family life in general. Everett will be remembered as a husband who loved his wife dearly, caring for her every need. He was a father to five children, giving unending horsy rides when they were children and guiding them to be the adults they are today. He continued the "Grandpa Express" for his grandchildren along with letting them "blow him away". Memorial services will be held at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, TX, Tuesday, March 19, at 10am. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 pm on Monday, March 18.

Everett was a skillful woodworker. While in the Woodworker's Club he made many toys for the children in various hospitals. He was a great friend. Bob and Barbara Harper

My heart goes out to family and friends of Everett during this difficult time of loss. It's the little things, the small, everyday occurrences that you'll remember. The laughs, the stories, the smiles. And even though it seems like you can never recover from your loss, it is these very memories that will help push the pain away and bring back the smile. 1John 3:20 states as regards whatever our hearts may condemn us in, because God is greater than our hearts and knows all things. May these comforting words help you Mrs. Annabel get through today and the days ahead.
