It has been more than 30 years since Felton and I worked together in Austin. Still, as I wrote him a month ago, every day my work for The Philadelphia Inquirer is enriched by what he taught me and by his example. I'm so thankful for him. Felton and Jean were there when Christine and I fell in love and were married, and they added to our joy at that wonderful time.

Felton was a testimony to the transforming power of Jesus Christ. His dedication and work ethic were an example to follow. As Philippians 1:21 states, "to live is Christ and to die is gain." Amazing grace! how sweet the sound--that saved a wretch like me! See you in heaven!

Mr. West was one of a rare breed of journalists that remembered that their job was to bring the news, not to create it. He was a great friend to my uncle, Jerry Hall, whom we also lost recently. They are now reunited and reporting in a better place.

We send our sympathy to all the Wests. Sylvia and Dale talked about you and then we had the pleasure of meeting you. I always loved your quiet, deep faith. Felton lives with God and He will comfort all of you who miss Felton so.

Felton was truly an example of God's redeeming power and I credit that to Grace. To, as his daughter-in-law, have called him Dad was a privaledge.
