J. Eugene "Gene" Daman J. Eugene "Gene" Daman was called home to be with the Lord on April 23, 2011. He died of natural causes. He was born on August 22, 1922 in Oil City, Pennsylvania to parents John Nicholas Daman and Edna Katherine (Morrissey) Daman. He graduated from Saint Joseph's School in Oil City. Gene enlisted in the Navy on October 15, 1942 and was discharged on December 5, 1947. He was stationed in Beeville, Texas where he met and fell in love with Margaret "Peg" Tucker. They were married on December 15, 1947 and moved to Harlingen, Texas where Gene attended printing school. They then moved to Austin where he began his career as a linotype operator with the University of Texas printing division. Gene and Peg had five children, Patrick Nicholas, Anne Marie, Michael Anthony, Mark Thomas, and Katherine Louise. Gene and Peg were charter members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Delia Tucker; nieces Myra (Tucker) Bull and husband, Blaine, Mary Tucker, Adrianna Sutherland and husband, Arafat El Bakri; and nephews, Dave Sutherland and wife, Patty, John Sutherland and wife, Valerie. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Thursday, the 28th of April from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening with a Rosary being recited at seven o'clock at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin. A funeral mass will be conducted on Friday, the 29th of April at two o'clock in the afternoon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5909 Reicher Drive, Austin.
