James Hawley Obituary

James Harris Hawley, born on July 18, 1926 passed away on March 20, 2023. Jimmy attended Pease Elementary, Austin High School, and graduated from Culver Military Academy on D-Day. He immediately enlisted in the Navy and served in the South Pacific until 1946. After his Navy service, Jimmy attended The University of Texas at Austin before beginning his banking career at the Austin National Bank. In 1966 Jimmy graduated from the Southwestern School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. He retired as an executive vice president at Bank of America in 1989. Jimmy was a member of Westwood Country Club, The Admirals Club, and the Headliners.

Jimmy enjoyed life and brought joy to those who knew him. Whether it was serving as Treasurer of Austin PBS - KLRU, serving as a Knight of the Symphony, or fundraising for Laguna Gloria, he was a strong supporter of Austin's cultural life. He loved the Texas Longhorns and hunting with his lifelong friends in West Texas. He enjoyed traveling, especially picking up a new car in Europe with Edie, touring Germany and France, and enjoying country inns with great chefs along the way.

He was predeceased by his parents, George Cressy Hawley and Anna Bartholomew Hawley, and his brother Steve Kinnear Hawley. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Editha (Edie) Hawley; daughter Marianna Brewster and her husband Chris; son Bart Hawley and his wife Julie; grandchildren Anna Brewster, John Brewster and his wife Lauren, John Hawley and his wife Virginia, Elizabeth Hawley; and great grandchild, Oliver Hawley.

The family will have a private funeral service to remember Jimmy's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Austin PBS - KLRU or the charity of your choice.
