James Motsinger Obituary

James Valery Motsinger James Valery Motsinger, 72, of Manor, TX, passed away on March 9, 2013. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am on Friday March 15th at Manor United Methodist Church, 510 N. Burnet, Manor, TX. Pastor Liz Kevilus and Pastor Morris Daugherty will be officiating. Burial will follow the Memorial Service at Capital Parks Cemetery. Jim was born in Baltimore, MD on March 8, 1941. He graduated from Aberdeen High School and continued on to receive a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Jim was married to Charlotte Elaine King on December 26, 1970. They were married 42 years. Jim worked as an Electrical Engineer until his retirement in 2002. In addition to his hobbies of woodworking and photography, Jim was extremely active in service to the public and enjoyed working with young people. He umpired little league baseball in Round Rock, TX, mentored high school students at Manor ISD and was a Cadet leader in the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the Army National Guard. He was awarded The Silver Medal of Valor for conspicuous heroic action at the risk of life, above and beyond the call of duty by the Civil Air Patrol on October 12, 1976 when he helped rescue 2 people from a burning vehicle. Over the years Jim served as a volunteer fire fighter with the Aberdeen, MD Volunteer Fire Department, Plantation, FL Volunteer Fire Department where he was training officer, and the Motorola Fire Department where he was chief. He was also a volunteer deputy sheriff in Aberdeen, MD and returned to school in his late 50's to become a volunteer EMT and first responder and fire fighter with the Manor Fire Department. In addition, along with his dog Shadow, Jim was a volunteer with Therapy Pet Pals of Texas. Jim is survived by his wife Charlotte, sons Robert and Daniel Motsinger, daughter-in-law Dawn Motsinger, grandchildren Jessica Vargas and Scott and Sebastian Motsinger, brother-in-law James King, and other family and friends. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Armard and Minnie Motsinger and his beloved dog, Shadow. The family of James Motsinger wishes to thank Hospice Austin for their support these last few weeks and the very special caregivers from Caring Seniors who took such loving care of Jim these last few months. We couldn't have done it without you. We also wish to thank the members of the Manor and Travis County Fire Departments who have assisted the family with such kindness through the years. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the charity of your choice.
