Joel Clayton Frierson

Joel Clayton Frierson July 24, 1958 - Sept. 8, 2009 After 18 long years as a kidney dialysis patient, a time in which everyone was amazed by Joel's patience, kindness and attitude, God called him home. Joel's faith in Jesus Christ sustained him through this long and difficult journey. Words are inadequate to express our deepest gratitude to our family, church family and friends whose prayers brought strength and encouragement to him during his many health issues. Joel was born in Austin, graduated from Austin High School, and was a rural mail carrier until his retirement in 1996 due to health reasons. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church for over 25 years. Everyone loved Joel, and he will be sorely missed. During his countless hospitalizations and surgeries, he met many wonderful people who were a special blessing to him. He usually had a smile for everyone, and never failed to say "Thank You!" We would like to express our deep appreciation to Dr. Charles Hubbard, Chris and Rosa, and office staff for their great care, patience and concern during a critical time in Joel's life. They were truly a blessing. Our sincere appreciation is extended to Harold and Anne Godfrey, Joel's uncle and aunt, who over the last two and a half years took him to doctor's appointments and outings too numerous to count. To all the many kind and caring people at the dialysis unit and to the staff and two special roommates, Paul Prior and Ron Gallup, at South Congress Care and Rehab, we offer our gratitude of thanks. Joel's father, Hoit D. Frierson preceded him in death in April 1996. He is survived by his mother, Doris I. Frierson; brother and sister-in-law, Hoit K. Frierson and Paula; nephew, Hoit A. Frierson and wife Heather; niece, Marah L. Frierson and her children Kaden and Mackenzie, all of Austin. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Bob Godwin, pastor of Bethel Assembly of God, assisted by Rev. Clyde Poldrack at Harrell's Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 11, 2009. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Bateman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gideons.
