Born September 3, 1959 in New York City to Jane and Frank Craparo, John is survived by his brothers George, Michael, and Anthony; his son Breck; and his beloved granddaughters Olivia, Isla, and Everly. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Frank and Richard. John led an extraordinary life as a business executive, university professor, inventor, author, and aviator. With a Bachelor's degree from Iona College, a Master's in Management from NYU Polytechnic, and a Ph.D. in Aviation Science from Everglades University, his academic achievements reflected his lifelong thirst for knowledge.
His career spanned leadership roles in major corporations, including GE Capital, Dell Financial Services, and Hewlett-Packard, where he guided global technology transformations and earned recognition in Marquis Who's Who and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. He also helped revolutionize robotic coffee brewing during his time at Briggo, securing multiple patents.
John was deeply committed to mentorship, teaching at several universities and serving on academic advisory boards. He inspired countless students and colleagues with his intellect, humility, and drive.
A passionate aviator, John pursued flight in nearly every form balloons, gliders, gyroplanes, and fixed-wing aircraft. He held multiple national and international aviation records, authored a book on becoming a pilot, and wrote for various aviation publications. He even built and flew his own gyroplane, earning a prestigious Lindy Award for his craftsmanship. His love for flight was matched by his desire to share it with others, encouraging and supporting aspiring pilots of all ages.
John will be remembered as a visionary who lived at the intersection of leadership, curiosity, and adventure. His legacy lives on in the innovations he led, the lives he touched, and the skies he soared.
A celebration of John's life will be held in the most fitting of places, an airplane hangar, at Cross Country Estates, Georgetown, Texas, on Sunday, August 31 at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to share stories, laughter, and food in his honor.
